La Vara

The more First Looks I shoot, the more I realize I need to get out and eat.

The latest shoot, at La Vara in Cobble Hill, reminded me I still have yet to visit Txikito, the Chelsea tapas spot of chefs/spouses Alex Raij and Eder Montero.

But in the meantime, I’m happy to sit here and get to know the handmade pasta with goat butter, and ground goat.

Braised beef tongue that reminds me of my mother’s holiday cooking – and that’s a good thing.

Juicy, juicy chicken that really welcomes you to stay awhile.

And for dessert, a light custard flecked with cinnamon, rose, rice and grapefruit.

I still have many places to go, but for now, I’m glad I came here.
