playing detective
A good journey contains at least one mystery. Ideally, the detective process is rather enjoyable.
M. and I traveled to Little Saigon and cracked the first case with stealth and patience: the famed Bánh mì sandwich.
Saigon Sandwich, San Francisco.
The Bánh mì comes on a crunchy Vietnamese baguette of wheat and rice flour. Traditionally, its components include:
- thinly sliced pickled carrots and daikon
- cucumbers
- cilantro
- chili peppers
- pâté and/or mayonnaise
- various meat fillings or tofu.
I selected roast chicken, while M. went with roast pork. Other choices included fancy pork and meat ball pork.
Mystery solved: A tasty start to a delicious vacation…with a definite kick.
